UCPH is one of the oldest university in Denmark and regarded as one of the most elite one as well, with notable alumni being Niels Bohr and Piet Hein. The six faculties in the university aim for independent research with collaborative studies with other institutions.

The university emphasizes Sustainability studies and the field of Sustainability aiming at becoming a world class institution for proving sustainability education.

University of Copenhagen features a complete educational program with 37,000 students and 7000
employees. It has maintained a consistent position in the top 50 universities worldwide and was ranked the 25th best university in the world in 2013 in terms of academic performance.

The Niels Bohr Institute hosts 10 research groups and 12 science centres with approximately 250 staff and 800 students. Scientific research, in collaboration with many leading international research groups, spans astronomy, geophysics, particle physics, quantum mechanics, nanotechnology and biophysics. The Neutron and X-Ray Scattering group at the Niels Bohr Institute consists of ~50 people working on structural materials sciences, ranging from magnetism and superconductivity to synthetic polymers, bio-molecules and pharmaceutics. It also includes research on didactics in experimental physics.

The University of Copenhagen are contributing to SINE2020 on the E-learning work package.
