Spain: Our Partner - CSIC/ICMA

Located in Zaragoza 350km west of Barcelona, the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Aragon (ICMA) is a Joint Research Institute founded in 1985 between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Zaragoza (UZ).

ICMA is internationally prestigious in materials science and has a long history of managing international large scale facilities, for example neutron sources. The institute has been a scientific member of the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL , Grenoble, France) since 1987 with a number of ICMA researchers permanently located there as part of the Spanish Collaborative Research Group (CRG). ICMA is leading the development at ILL of the instrument XtremeD which will be specially adapted to study structural and magnetic properties in very small samples and under extreme conditions.

ICMA are contributing towards Sample Environment with Monte Carlo Simulations.

University of Zaragoza
The University of Zaragoza is one of the oldest universities, having been founded in 1542, but also has history dating back to Roman times.

Spanish National Research Council
Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC) is the largest institution dedicated to research in Spain. It collaborates nationally and internationally to develop and promote research that fosters scientific and technological progress “in order to contribute to advancing knowledge and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to train staff and advise public and private entities on this matter.”
