Funding available for Neutron and Muon Advanced Schools

The present call is open to schools organized during the whole period of the SINE2020 project (up to end of September 2019. It is dedicated especially to support the organization of Neutron and Muon Advanced Schools. Two other similar calls will be open end of 2017 and end of 2018.

A coordination committee has been set up by SINE2020 partner institutions as well as a committee of experts to evaluate the proposals (Selection Panel).

Education and Training within the SINE2020 networking activities has the mission of enhancing the preparation for new generations of future users of European neutron and muon facilities. The Schools are based on the existing network of neutron schools organized on a regular basis throughout Europe, but in the perspective of the European Spallation Source (ESS), new proposals on specialized subjects on advanced instrumentation or research topics addressed by neutrons and/or muons are specifically encouraged.

The coordination committee encourages the use of the e-learning platform and the involvement of local Universities.

General rules:

• Selected schools will have to acknowledge the support by Grant Agreement number: 654000 — SINE2020 — H2020-INFRADEV-2014-2015/H2020-INFRADEV-1-2014-1
• Selection of the supported schools: a Selection Panel of 10 members composed of scientists with experience in neutron scattering, but independent of usual schools will provide a priority list of the proposed events, and the final approval for financial support will be made by the SINE2020 Advisory Committee.
• Beneficiaries: Institutions and Universities from EU and eligible associated countries.
• Eligibility: Travel and subsistence of non-national scientists, students (graduate, PhD students affiliated to an Institute from the EU or EU associated country) can be supported. Travel and subsistence of non-national lecturers can also be supported. Supported spending will have to be justified.
• Deadline for submission: 30 November 2016.
• Notification to the Proposers: End of December 2016.
• Internationality: only international schools (fully or partly English language) will be supported.
• E-learning: Proposers accepting funding from SINE2020 need to make their teaching material available for the SINE2020 e-learning portal.
• Maximum support: A maximum of 50% of the total budget of the school, but not more than 10,000 EUR/school will be supported. An average amount of 200EUR/student is foreseen. The available budget to be distributed between the schools is: 45,500 EUR/call.
• Students: school directors will be responsible for selecting the supported students (travel and/or subsistence).
• School report: A school report within 6 months from the end of the action must be sent to the Contact Person. Bank transfer of the support will be made upon acceptance of the report.
